"Fred Ingrams has fallen in love with the fens, the low lying swathe of agricultural land on the east coast of England, stretching from Norfolk to Cambridgeshire and Lincolnshire. He paints the fertile black earth, the abandoned nineteenth century pump rooms, the purple potato fields and the chicken sheds that cling to the shifting soil; with vivid colour and straight lines, his paintings draw your eye along shadowy dykes towards expansive horizons. The views are bleak yet the work feels generous and celebratory" Vogue June 2015 An inspiring weekend workshop painting in acrylics. On the first day you will be outside in the fens no matter what the weather may be (please wear appropriate clothing). We will all meet at the school were Fred will give a little talk before heading out to the fields. Fred will be demonstrating how he paints the fens and guiding you through the first stages of your own paintings. On the second day you will be in our studio developing your own paintings from day one with Fred on hand to help you along the way. £210.00 (inclusive of VAT)

Maxine Byron a local landscape artist has a BA in Fine Art and enjoys painting large colourful pictures influenced by the Norfolk countryside. She exhibits locally and has works in private collection in the UK and America. Her class will be led by example and demonstration with Maxine painting at the beginning and then assisting the group with their work. You can paint from images supplied or bring one of your own. Painting with oil on canvas continues to be a favoured choice because of its long-lasting colour and the variety of approaches and methods. Oil paints may have been used as far back as the 13th century. Oil paintings do not require glass and a box canvas can be hung on the wall without need of a frame. Easily removed from the canvas, oil allows the artist to revise a work; paint can be placed on top of acrylic; it can be used straight from the tube and applied with a palette knife for texture or used as a thin glaze. Only non toxic, natural brush cleaning solvents will be used in this class as turpentine and white spirit can cause headaches. £35.00 (inclusive of VAT)  You are very welcome to stay on and use the studio untutored until 4.30pm for an additional £5 per person per day which you can pay on the day.
