An exciting two day pastel workshop on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September. 

The theme is ‘marsh light’ and will encompass an expressive use of soft and hard pastel techniques each day to capture the beauty of (day 1 - Saturday 26 September) soft morning light through the fens, reeds and marshes of the Norfolk Broads and (day 2 -Sunday 27 September) the romantic glowing light that North Norfolk has to offer across the inspiring salt marshes.

Robert will teach you how to master depth, express the captivating light and use expressive layering with just the right amount of detail to create really atmospheric pastel paintings each day with that added wow factor!

Day 1 - Saturday 26 September - Soft morning light through the marshes

Our first day will begin with an in-depth look and expression of the beautiful romantic morning light flickering across water and through reeds creating really enchanting and engaging pastel paintings. 

The suggested theme is The Norfolk Broads combining reflective waters, reeds and sailboats. Roberts own subject will be similar to sailboats gently gliding through the waterways looking through back lit reads - just one of those visual ideas and suggestions to inspire you too! Wide open vistas across vast areas of reed beds towards iconic historical buildings such as Cley and the famous windmill may be another subject you might have in mind.

Whatever your favourite view this is a workshop to really learn how to capture and embrace the true aspect of that special light and your own favourite view of North Norfolk or the Norfolk Broads in this exciting pastel workshop.

Highly recommended to work on for this workshop is Clairefontaine ‘Maize’ colour 350gsm Pastelmat (or similar light coloured pastel support).

Day 2 - Sunday 27 September - Evening glow through North Norfolk reeds

Without doubt a sunset through the salt marshes of North Norfolk is a truly magical thing and an experience to behold. 

On this second ‘Marsh light’ workshop you will learn how to create the captivating glowing light through reeds and narrow waters and marsh pools that are  iconic in this unique and special area along the North Norfolk coast and indeed the Norfolk Broads - the choice is yours!

Robert will teach you how to build your painting in multiple layers throughout the day using a glowing warm colour palette contrasting with rich darks to create a really atmospheric and romantic look and feel to your pastel paintings.

You will be using combinations of soft and hard pastels together in a lovely layering process on a dark background (Clairefontaine Anthracite Grey 350gsm Pastelmat highly recommended) so your finished painting will positively glow!

A home cooked lunch and all refreshments are included per day. £260.00 (inclusive of VAT) for the Weekend workshop.
