Judith Handley

Judith graduated from Nottingham Trent University with a BA (Hons) in Knitwear & Fashion Design and have worked as a freelance hand-knit designer, and in fashion retail as a buyer and visual merchandiser. In 2003, She completed Her PGCE at Homerton College, University of Cambridge in Art & Design and spent 16 years teaching Art and Textiles to GCSE and A level students. She now combine my time creating freelance artwork for local galleries, teaching workshops and fashion retail.

Within Her teaching She loves to watch the confidence of a participant grow during a workshop towards full blown delight and pride when they produce artwork they initially thought was unachievable.

After many years of full-time teaching Judith is currently developing ideas around combinations of print techniques (lino, mono and silkscreen print). She is fascinated by layers of colour, shapes and pattern repeats. Her work can be representational or abstract depending on the source of inspiration – usually natural forms or everyday objects.

The textiles and art often merge together; sometimes the prints become stitched and occasionally She will introduce found and recycled papers, and melted plastics can appear which create surface sheen and texture. The work varies in scale from greetings cards to larger A2 pieces and everything in-between.
